ITINERARY

SOUTHERN MYANMAR TOUR – 5 DAYS

DAY (1) : YANGON – BAGO – KYAIKHTIYO (GOLDEN ROCK) ( – / – / – )

You are picked up at your hotel and drive to Kyaikhtiyo (Golden Rock). We drive from Yangon to Kyaik Hto then go to Golden Rock. It is about 200km away from Yangon and will take 4 hours about. On the way, visit to Bago, located only 80 km, was an ancient capital of Mon Kingdom in 15th century.

Visit Kyaikpun Pagoda which seated back to back against a massive brick pillar.

Continue visit to Shwemawdaw Pagoda, which is over a thousand years old and the tallest pagoda in the country through Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon. Next visit to 55 metre long Shwethalyaung Reclining Buddha was built by the Mon King Mingadeipka.

Drive to Kyaikhtiyo. Arrive at Kinpon Base Camp-pilgrim-village is a starting point to the famous Golden Rock.

From the base camp, we first take a truck to reach Yathyae Taung Camp. Then we will enjoy the 25 minute trekking to Golden Rock. The famous ‘Golden Rock’ is a sacred, massive gold-leafed boulder delicately balanced on the edge of a cliff near the top of Mt. Kyaikhtiyo and it is one of the most revered Buddhist shrines. You’ll enjoy the sunset at pilgrimage site. Return to Hotel.

DAY (2) : KYAIKHTIYO (GOLDEN ROCK) – THAHTON – HPA-AN ( B / – / – )

Breakfast at hotel. Early morning, you can enjoy the sunrise at Kyaikhtiyo. Return to base camp and drive to Hpa-an (approx. 6 hours). On the way, stop in Thahton which is old royal palace of Mon Kingdom.

Continue drive to Hpa-an. On the way you’ll pass villages and plains full of paddy fields. Then visit to Kawh Goon Cave. This cave is by far the most interesting. The entrance of the cave is covered with thousands of tiny clay Buddha and carvings plastered all over the walls up to the ceiling. Just over a mile away is the Yathaypyan Cave, which contains several pagodas as well as a few more clay wall carvings. From the top, nice view to the surrounding mountain over the Than Lwin River. Just outside Hpa-An lies the interesting Kyaukalat Monastery which standing on a tiny island and the monastery is known for its shape. From here, you’ll enjoy the great views of the surrounding countryside and nearby Mt. Zwegabin, and is allegedly the best place to see the sunset over this mountain.

DAY (3) : HPA-AN – MAWLAMYINE ( B / – / – )

Breakfast at hotel. This morning drive to Mawlamyine (approx. 1 ½ hours). Mawlamyine is the capital of Mon State, situated at the mouth of the Thanlwin River. On the way stop at Kadoe village – entrance of the village, you can hire motorbike taxis or you take a stroll through the main lane of the village and there you can discover simple village life. Visit to U Nar Auk Monastery (ornate temples in a large complex, intriguing teak carvings depicting the life of Buddha and cool teak statues). Continue driving to Mawlamyine.

In the afternoon, sightseeing continue to Mon State National Museum where display their traditional music instruments, clothes and old Mon languages scripts. Proceed to Mahamuni Pagoda, Kyaikthanlan Pagoda (also known as the Kipling Pagoda). Stop at Seindon Mibaya Kyaung, where are situated on a mountain range and observed your beautiful sunset. Transfer to hotel.

DAY (4) : MAWLAMYINE – THANBYUZAYAT – KYIKHAMI – MAWLAMYINE ( B / – / – )

Breakfast at hotel. This morning, visit local market then directly drive to Thanbyuzayat (approx. 1 ½ hours). On the way, we will visit to the small town of Mudon. The area between Mawlamyine and Mudon is well known for its rubber plantations. Our tour highlight include to Kyaukdalone Taung where a Buddhist Stupa and Hindu temple facing each other. A hundred meter further south is the entrance to Win Sein Taw Ya where is the world largest reclining Buddha – the reclining Buddha is filled with rooms that showcase dioramas of the teaching of Buddha and a shrine. Continue to Thanbyuzayat formerly the western terminus of the infamous ‘Death Railway’ by the thousand of Allied prisoners of War to work by the Japanese military. Thanbyuzayat War Cemetery contains 3771 grave of allied prisoners of war. Drive to Kyaikkkame, where you can visit Ye Lae Paya (“Pagoda amidst water”), a metal-roofed Buddhist shrine complex perched over the sea and reached through a long two-level causeway (the lower level is submerged during high tide). The shrine chamber beneath Yele Paya contains a Buddha image which floated on a raft from Sri Landa in ancient times. The shrine’s shape look like a boat.

In the afternoon, return to Mawlamyine and visit small Mon Culture Museum (if open) where exhibits stelae with Mon inscriptions, 100 year old wooden sculptures, sickness, ceramics, royal funerary urns and Mon musical instruments. We will make photo stops at some interesting old colonial-style houses, a mosque and churches. Evening stroll along the Thanlwin River and observed the beautiful sunset.

DAY (5) : MAWLAMYINE – YANGON ( B / – / – )

Breakfast at hotel. Return to Yangon (approx. 7 hours). During the journey, you will get wonderful experience to see more of the local life. Arrive to Yangon and transfer to your hotel.
